Kinetic theory explains gas pressure as a purely mechanical, statistical effect of huge numbers of molecular collisions with the container walls, not as some intrinsic property of a stationary gas.

Gas molecules are in continuous, random motion, colliding with each other and with the walls of the container. Each time a molecule strikes a wall, it exerts a small impulsive force on the wall (and, by Newton's third law, the wall exerts an equal and opposite force on it), rebounding elastically.
