Line communication: Signals travel through a physical, guided transmission medium that directly connects the transmitter and the receiver. The signal is confined to and guided along this medium. Examples: telephone communication over twisted-pair copper wires, coaxial cable TV/internet connections, and optical fibre communication.
Space communication: Signals (in the form of electromagnetic/radio waves) are radiated into free space by a transmitting antenna and propagate without any physical connecting medium, to be picked up by a receiving antenna. Examples: AM/FM radio broadcasting, television broadcasting, mobile (cellular) telephony, and satellite communication.
