Differences between a National Park and a Sanctuary:
- Level of protection: A National Park is a highly protected area meant to preserve the natural flora, fauna, landscape and historical objects of a region in their natural state, with the strictest legal protection. A Sanctuary is also a protected wildlife area, but with comparatively less stringent restrictions.
- Human activities: In a National Park, activities such as grazing of livestock, cultivation, forestry operations and private land ownership are NOT permitted. In a Sanctuary, certain regulated human activities such as grazing, collection of forest produce, and even private land ownership may be permitted, provided they do not harm the wildlife.
- Boundaries: National Park boundaries are well-defined and fixed by legislation; Sanctuary boundaries may sometimes be altered by a state legislature resolution, which is not the case for a National Park. …
