Writing every non-horizontal line as x=my+cx=my+c and eliminating the arbitrary constants m,cm,c by differentiating twice gives d2xdy2=0\dfrac{d^2x}{dy^2}=0.

A horizontal line cannot be written as x=x= (function of yy) in a one-to-one way, but every non-horizontal line (including vertical ones) can be written as

x=my+cx=my+c

where m,cm,c are arbitrary constants (this family covers all non-horizontal lines in the plane).
