The night before the exam: a calm, effective checklist
The night before is for consolidation and calm, not cramming new topics. A short, honest checklist to walk in steady.
The night before an exam, your job is not to learn something new. It's to arrive tomorrow rested, organised, and calm. New topics started now mostly buy anxiety.
Tip
Cramming a brand-new chapter the night before typically lowers your score — it costs sleep and rattles your confidence far more than it adds marks.
Do this
- Skim, don't study. Read your own summary sheets and formula lists. Recognition, light touch.
- Redo 2–3 problems you already know cold. Ending on success settles the nerves.
- Pack your kit tonight. Admit card, ID, pens, geometry box, transparent water bottle, watch. Check the reporting time and centre.
- Set two alarms. Then stop.
- Sleep. A rested brain retrieves; a tired one blanks.
Don't do this
Watch out
- Don't start a chapter you've never touched.
- Don't take a full-length mock — a bad score tonight is pure poison, and a good one tempts you to stay up.
- Don't doom-scroll classmates' "have you finished X?" messages. There's always an X. It doesn't matter tonight.
Tomorrow morning
Eat something normal. Reach the centre early. In the reading time, scan the whole paper once and start with the question you're most sure of — a confident opening steadies your hand for the rest.
You've done the work over months. Tonight is just about protecting it.
