A violet photon is more energetic than a red photon because it has a higher frequency (shorter wavelength), and E = h f.

The energy of a single photon is

E = h f = h c / lambda,

where h is Planck's constant, f the frequency and lambda the wavelength.

This shows energy is directly proportional to frequency and inversely proportional to wavelength. Violet light has a shorter wavelength (about 400 nm) and therefore a higher frequency than red light (about 700 nm). Since higher frequency means higher energy, a violet photon carries more energy than a red photon.
