Beta electrons are not stored in the nucleus; they are created when a neutron changes into a proton (n -> p + e- + antineutrino).

The nucleus contains only protons and neutrons — no electrons reside inside it. Yet some nuclei emit electrons in beta-minus decay. The resolution is that the electron is created at the moment of decay, not released from storage.

Inside the nucleus a neutron transforms into a proton, emitting an electron and an antineutrino:

n -> p + e- + (antineutrino).
