Insolvent Yashraj pays ₹2,000; his ₹18,000 deficiency is borne by Rohit and Siddharth (credit balances) in ratio 5:4 → ₹10,000 and ₹8,000. Yash brings his ₹30,000 debit; Rohit is finally paid ₹40,000 and Siddharth ₹32,000.

Given capital balances: Rohit ₹50,000 (Cr.), Siddharth ₹40,000 (Cr.), Yash ₹30,000 (Dr.), Yashraj ₹20,000 (Dr.). Yashraj is insolvent; only ₹2,000 is realised from him. Garner vs Murray applies.

Rule (Garner vs Murray): The deficiency of the insolvent partner is borne by the solvent partners having credit balances, in the ratio of their capitals. A partner with a debit balance (here Yash) does not share the deficiency — he simply brings in his own debit balance.

Step 1 — Yashraj's deficiency: ₹20,000 (Dr.) − ₹2,000 (cash brought) = ₹18,000.

Step 2 — Ratio of solvent credit-balance partners: Rohit : Siddharth = 50,000 : 40,000 = 5 : 4.

  • Rohit bears ₹18,000 × 5/9 = ₹10,000
  • Siddharth bears ₹18,000 × 4/9 = ₹8,000

Step 3 — Yash (solvent, debit balance) brings in his ₹30,000.
