IGST is levied on inter-State supplies of goods/services and on imports — i.e. when the supplier and the place of supply are in different States/UTs.

GST has three components so that both the Centre and the States get their share of tax. For a transaction within a single State (intra-State), the Centre charges CGST and the State charges SGST together. For a transaction that moves between two States (inter-State), a single integrated tax — IGST — is charged instead, which the Centre collects and later apportions to the destination State.
