Four marketing functions: market information gathering, marketing planning, standardisation & grading, and promotion. (OR answer on price factors given below.)

In the marketing chapter of RBSE / Class-12 Business Studies (aligned with the NCERT/CBSE syllabus), four important functions of marketing are:

  1. Gathering and analysing market information — studying customer needs, tastes and competition so that the right decisions can be taken about what to produce and sell.
  2. Marketing planning — setting marketing objectives and drawing up programmes (for production, sales promotion, distribution, etc.) to achieve them.
  3. Standardisation and grading — setting uniform standards for products and sorting them into grades by quality/size, which builds buyer confidence and eases pricing and sale.
  4. Promotion — informing and persuading customers to buy, through advertising, personal selling, sales promotion and publicity.

(Other functions include product designing, branding, packaging and labelling, pricing, physical distribution, transportation, storage and customer support.)
