  1. Estimating manpower requirements — assessing how many and what kind of people are needed, by analysing the workload and the jobs to be filled.
  2. Recruitment — searching for prospective candidates and encouraging them to apply, so as to build a pool of applicants.
  3. Selection — choosing the most suitable candidates from the pool by screening, testing and interviewing, and rejecting the unsuitable ones.
  4. Placement and orientation — putting the selected person in the right job and familiarising (orienting) the new employee with the organisation, colleagues, rules and work.
