Induced investment is investment that depends on the level of income/output and rises as income rises; it is shown by an upward-sloping line, unlike autonomous investment which is horizontal.

Meaning: Investment is divided into two types. Autonomous investment is independent of income (made for reasons like new technology or government policy). Induced investment is the investment that is governed by, and changes with, the level of income (or output) in the economy.

Why it depends on income: When national income rises, people's demand for goods and services rises; to meet this higher demand producers invest more in machines and capacity. Hence induced investment is directly (positively) related to income — it is profit-motivated and income-elastic.
