Investment multiplier k = ΔY/ΔI = 1/(1 − MPC) = 1/MPS.

The investment multiplier (k) shows by how much national income rises when autonomous investment rises. Because the extra income is re-spent again and again according to the marginal propensity to consume (MPC), the total rise in income is a multiple of the initial investment:

k = ΔY / ΔI = 1 / (1 − MPC) = 1 / MPS
