Utility is the want-satisfying power of a commodity — e.g. the satisfaction a thirsty person gets from a glass of water.

In the RBSE/CBSE Class-12 theory-of-consumer-behaviour chapter, utility is defined as the want-satisfying power of a commodity — the amount of satisfaction a consumer derives from consuming a good or service. It is subjective (differs from person to person), has no moral meaning (even a harmful good can have utility to a user), and depends on the intensity of the want.
