PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) is the in-vitro technique used to rapidly amplify a chosen DNA sequence into millions of copies.

PCR uses a thermostable DNA polymerase (Taq polymerase, isolated from the thermophilic bacterium Thermus aquaticus, which survives the repeated heating steps) along with two primers complementary to the two ends of the region of DNA to be amplified.
