Lenz's law says the induced current opposes the flux change that causes it; the work done against this opposition becomes the electrical energy, so the law obeys energy conservation.

Lenz's law:

The direction of the induced current is always such that it opposes the cause (the change in magnetic flux) that produces it. This is why the induced emf is written with a minus sign: emf = - d(phi)/dt.

Why it obeys conservation of energy:

Consider pushing a magnet's north pole towards a coil. The induced current makes the coil's near face a north pole, which repels the approaching magnet. To keep pushing the magnet in, the person must do work against this repulsion. This mechanical work is exactly what appears as electrical energy (and then heat) in the coil.
