Pulvinus = a swollen, pulvinate leaf/petiole base enabling movement; typical of Fabaceae.

In leaf morphology, the leaf base is the part that attaches the leaf to the stem. In most plants it is simple and flattened, but in certain plants — most typically members of the family Fabaceae (sub-family Papilionoideae, e.g. Pisum sativum/pea, Phaseolus/bean) — the leaf base becomes swollen. This swollen, cushion-like leaf base is called a pulvinus.
