Mr. Sravanthi keeps books under single entry, so profit is derived from the change in capital. Profit = Closing capital + Drawings − Additional capital introduced − Opening capital = 18,000 + 4,000 − 5,500 − 12,000 = Rs. 4,500. This is a TS Intermediate 2nd-year Accountancy incomplete-records (statement of affairs) problem.

Logic

Under single entry the increase in capital over the year is caused by profit and by fresh capital, and is reduced by drawings. So we 'add back' drawings (which had reduced capital), remove the fresh capital introduced (which is not earned profit), and compare with opening capital.
