Question of 104

Q.A={1,2,3}A=\{1,2,3\} is a set, and if RR is a relation defined on the set AA, where R={(1,1),(2,2),(3,3),(1,2),(2,3)}R=\{(1,1),(2,2),(3,3),(1,2),(2,3)\}, then check whether RR is transitive.

A relation is transitive only if, whenever (a,b)(a,b) and (b,c)(b,c) are both in it, (a,c)(a,c) is also in it; a single missing pair breaks transitivity.

R={(1,1),(2,2),(3,3),(1,2),(2,3)}R=\{(1,1),(2,2),(3,3),(1,2),(2,3)\} on A={1,2,3}A=\{1,2,3\}.

Check the pair (1,2)∈R(1,2)\in R and (2,3)∈R(2,3)\in R. For transitivity we would need (1,3)∈R(1,3)\in R.

But (1,3)∉R(1,3)\notin R.
