The four factors of production — land, labour, capital and entrepreneur — earn rent, wages, interest and profit respectively.

Factors (means) of production are the resources used to produce goods and services. In modern economics there are four factors, and each receives a particular reward (factor payment) for the service it renders:

  1. Land — Land means all free gifts of nature used in production, such as soil, minerals, water, forests and climate. Its reward is Rent.

  2. Labour — Labour means all human physical and mental effort used in production. Its reward is Wages (or salary).

  3. Capital — Capital means all man-made means of production, such as machines, tools, buildings and raw materials, which help in further production. Its reward is Interest.
