Vallisneria is pollinated by water (hydrophily) — option (a).

Concept — why water? Pollinating agents are chosen by a plant's habitat. Vallisneria is a fully submerged fresh-water plant. Its flowers use the water surface as the delivery route for pollen, a mode called hydrophily (pollination by water).

How it works in Vallisneria: The female flower reaches the surface on a long coiled stalk and floats. The male flowers (or their pollen) get released and are carried passively by the water surface to the stigma of the floating female flower. The pollen grains are protected from wetting by a mucilaginous covering.
