For a zero order reaction the rate is independent of concentration, so kk has the same units as rate, mol L−1s−1\text{mol L}^{-1}\text{s}^{-1}, and the integrated equation is k=[R]0−[R]tk=\dfrac{[R]_0-[R]}{t}.

Concept — a zero order reaction. Here the rate does not depend on the concentration of the reactant:

Rate=−d[R]dt=k[R]0=k.\text{Rate}=-\frac{d[R]}{dt}=k[R]^{0}=k.

Unit of kk. Since rate =k=k, the rate constant has the same units as rate:

k=mol L−1 s−1.k=\text{mol L}^{-1}\,\text{s}^{-1}.

(In general kk has units (mol L−1)1−ns−1(\text{mol L}^{-1})^{1-n}\text{s}^{-1}; putting n=0n=0 gives mol L−1s−1\text{mol L}^{-1}\text{s}^{-1}.)

Integrated rate expression (derivation). Starting from −d[R]dt=k-\dfrac{d[R]}{dt}=k and integrating between [R]0[R]_0 at t=0t=0 and [R][R] at time tt: …
