Self-induced emf ε = −L di/dt = 250 V.

The emf induced in an inductor due to a changing current (self-induction) is

ε = −L (di/dt).

Here L = 5 H, and the current changes from 12 A to 7 A in 0.1 s, so

di/dt = (7 − 12)/0.1 = −5/0.1 = −50 A/s.

Therefore

ε = −5 × (−50) = 250 V.
