Secured debentures carry a charge on the company's assets as security for repayment.

Secured debentures are debentures that are secured by creating a charge — either a FIXED charge (on a specific asset, such as a particular piece of land or machinery) or a FLOATING charge (on the general assets of the company, which may change from time to time) — in favour of the debenture holders (often through a Debenture Trust Deed and a Trustee).

If the company fails to pay the principal amount or interest due on secured debentures, the debenture holders have the legal right to recover their dues by enforcing this charge — i.e., by having the charged assets sold and the proceeds applied towards their claim — in priority to most other creditors.
