GMOs = organisms whose genes are altered by genetic engineering. GM-plant uses: (1) pest resistance (Bt cotton) and (2) improved nutrition/biofortification (Golden Rice) — also herbicide/stress tolerance and longer shelf life.

Concept

Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) are plants, animals, bacteria or fungi whose genes have been changed by manipulation using recombinant DNA technology — a foreign gene is added, or an existing gene altered, to give a new, useful trait. Plants so modified are called GM crops / transgenic plants.
