Adolescents/youngsters are often drawn towards alcohol and drug use due to factors such as: curiosity and experimentation ('thrill-seeking'); peer pressure and the desire to be accepted in a group; academic, family or emotional stress and a wish to escape from problems; curiosity fuelled by media/advertisement glamorising substance use; and sometimes easy availability combined with a lack of awareness about the ill-effects.
