This is a dihybrid cross giving a 9:3:3:1 ratio in F2. OR: human sex determination follows the XX–XY chromosomal mechanism, decided by the father's sperm.

Let Tall (T) be dominant over dwarf (t), and Red flower (R) dominant over white (r), the two genes assorting independently (Mendel's Law of Independent Assortment).

Parental cross: pure Tall Red (TTRR) × pure Dwarf White (ttrr).

F1 generation: all offspring are TtRr — Tall, Red-flowered (100%), since T and R are both dominant.

F2 generation: self-crossing the F1 (TtRr × TtRr) produces four types of gametes from each parent (TR, Tr, tR, tr), which combine in a 4×4 Punnett square to give the classic dihybrid ratio: 9 Tall Red : 3 Tall White : 3 Dwarf Red : 1 Dwarf White (i.e., 9/16 : 3/16 : 3/16 : 1/16).
