Cutting along the length halves the pole strength; cutting across the length halves the length -- either way, magnetic moment halves.

(i) Cut along its length: The magnet splits into two thinner bar magnets, each with the same length ll as the original but with cross-sectional area (and hence pole strength mpm_p) reduced to half. Since magnetic moment M=mp×lM = m_p \times l, the new magnetic moment of each piece becomes M/2M/2 (pole strength halved, length unchanged).
