Fluctuating capital method keeps one account per partner that records every adjustment, so the closing balance changes each year. Under the fixed capital method the Capital Account stays unchanged (credit balance) and a separate Current Account carries the fluctuations.

In the fluctuating capital method, no separate current account is maintained; interest on capital, salary, commission and share of profit are credited, while drawings, interest on drawings and share of loss are debited to the same capital account, making the balance fluctuate from year to year.
