Interest on loan Rs. 4,050; interest on capital X 15,000 + Y 10,000; interest on drawings X 750 + Y 600; Reserve Fund 22,000; profit shared X 1,23,750 and Y 74,250.

Working notes:

  • Interest on X's loan = 90,000 x 6% x 9/12 (01.07.2023 to 31.03.2024) = Rs. 4,050. Interest on a partner's loan is a charge against profit, so it is debited to the Profit & Loss Account (not the Appropriation A/c). Net profit available for appropriation = 2,47,700 - 4,050 = Rs. 2,43,650.
  • Interest on capital @ 10%: X = 1,50,000 x 10% = 15,000; Y = 1,00,000 x 10% = 10,000.
  • Interest on drawings @ 6% p.a. (no dates given, so charged for an average 6 months): X = 25,000 x 6% x 6/12 = 750; Y = 20,000 x 6% x 6/12 = 600.
  • Distributable profit before reserve = 2,43,650 + 1,350 (interest on drawings) - 25,000 (interest on capital) = Rs. 2,20,000. Reserve Fund = 10% x 2,20,000 = Rs. 22,000. Balance for distribution = 2,20,000 - 22,000 = Rs. 1,98,000, shared 5 : 3 -> X = 1,23,750; Y = 74,250.
