The three elastic moduli each measure resistance to a different type of deformation: Young's (length), Bulk (volume), and Shear (shape).

Young's Modulus (Y): Defined for a solid (typically a wire/rod) under longitudinal stress. It is the ratio of longitudinal stress to longitudinal strain, within the elastic limit:

Y = (F/A) / (ΔL/L)

It measures a material's resistance to stretching or compression along its length.

Bulk Modulus (K or B): Defined for a body subjected to uniform pressure from all sides (volume stress). It is the ratio of volume stress (pressure change) to volume strain:

K = −ΔP / (ΔV/V)

(the negative sign indicates volume decreases as pressure increases). It measures a material's resistance to a change in volume under uniform compression; its reciprocal is compressibility.
