Even though the vertical velocity is zero at the top of a projectile's path, the acceleration is never zero — it stays constant at g, pointing downward, throughout the entire motion.

For a projectile, the horizontal component of velocity (ux = u cosθ) stays constant since there is no horizontal force (ignoring air resistance), while the vertical component (uy = u sinθ − gt) decreases due to gravity, becoming zero exactly at the highest point.

However, acceleration is not the same as velocity. Throughout the flight — including at the very top — the only force acting on the projectile is gravity, so the acceleration remains constant:

a = g (≈ 9.8 m/s^2), directed vertically downward.
