Method to draw a histogram and frequency polygon from a continuous frequency distribution:
- Take the class intervals along the X-axis and the frequencies along the Y-axis, choosing a suitable scale.
- On each class interval erect a rectangle whose height equals the frequency of that class; because the classes are continuous the rectangles are adjacent (no gap). This set of rectangles is the histogram.
- Mark the mid-point of the top of each rectangle.
- Join these mid-points by straight lines. Close the polygon by joining the first and last mid-points down to the X-axis at the mid-points of the adjacent classes (which have zero frequency). This line graph is the frequency polygon. …
