Raoult's law: p_A = p°_A · x_A for each volatile component; a non-ideal solution (e.g. ethanol + water) deviates from it.

Raoult's law. For a solution containing volatile liquid components, the partial vapour pressure of any component is directly proportional to its mole fraction in the solution:

p_A = p°_A × x_A,

where p°_A is the vapour pressure of the pure component A and x_A its mole fraction. The total vapour pressure of an ideal binary solution is p = p°_A x_A + p°_B x_B.
