Luteinizing hormone stimulates androgen secretion from the testis in males, while in females it triggers ovulation and then maintains the corpus luteum.

Luteinizing hormone (LH) is one of the two gonadotrophins produced by the anterior pituitary, the other being follicle stimulating hormone; together they act on the gonads. Its specific effect, however, differs sharply between males and females.

In males, LH acts on the testis, stimulating it to make and secrete androgens, the family of hormones whose chief member is testosterone. This androgen output then goes on to support the accessory sex organs, secondary sex characters, and — working together with FSH — spermatogenesis. …
