Resonance is forced vibration at exactly the natural frequency, giving maximum amplitude.

When an external periodic force continuously drives an oscillating system, the system eventually vibrates at the frequency of that external force — this is called forced vibration. Its steady-state amplitude generally depends on how far the driving frequency is from the system's own natural frequency, and is usually much smaller than at natural oscillation, since damping opposes it.
