Pisciculture is fish farming; it enriches our food by supplying protein-rich fish and useful by-products.

Pisciculture (fish farming) is the branch of aquaculture that deals with the controlled rearing, breeding, catching and management of fish on a commercial scale, in ponds, tanks, rivers and coastal waters. Both freshwater fish (rohu, catla, common carp) and marine fish (Hilsa, sardines, mackerel) are cultured. Culturing more than one compatible species together is called composite fish culture.

Role in enrichment of our food:

1. Rich source of protein: fish provide easily digestible, high-quality animal protein at low cost, improving human nutrition.
2. Source of vitamins and oils: fish-liver oils (cod, shark) are rich in vitamins A and D.
