Inbreeding refers to the mating of more closely related individuals within the same breed, usually for 4 to 6 generations. Animals that share a common ancestry (for example, offspring mated with parents, or matings between brothers and sisters or half-sibs) are chosen.
Procedure: superior males and superior females of the same breed are identified and mated in pairs. The progeny are evaluated, and the best individuals are again used for further breeding.
