Metamerism = same molecular formula but different alkyl groups around a divalent functional group (ether O, ketone CO, amine N); e.g. C4H10O as diethyl ether vs methyl n-propyl ether.

Metamerism is a form of structural (positional) isomerism shown by members of the same homologous series (ethers, thioethers, ketones, secondary/tertiary amines). The isomers arise because the same number of carbon atoms can be distributed differently between the two alkyl groups attached to the polyvalent functional atom.
