Multiply the ways to fill the 3 letter-slots (first fixed as D) by the ways to fill the 4 non-zero digit-slots, using the multiplication principle; repetition is allowed within each group of slots (no restriction against it is stated).

Multiplication Principle: for a sequence of independent slots with n1,n2,…,nkn_1, n_2,\ldots,n_k choices each, the total number of sequences is n1×n2×⋯×nkn_1\times n_2\times\cdots\times n_k.

  1. Letters (3 slots): the first letter must be D ⇒1\Rightarrow 1 choice. The 2nd and 3rd letters can be any of the 2626 letters of the alphabet (repetition allowed) ⇒26\Rightarrow 26 choices each. Ways for the letter part =1×26×26=676= 1\times26\times26 = 676.
  2. Digits (4 slots): "non-zero number" means every digit is chosen from {1,2,…,9}\{1,2,\ldots,9\}, i.e. 99 choices per digit slot, with repetition allowed. Ways for the digit part =9×9×9×9=94= 9\times9\times9\times9 = 9^4. …
