This activity asks you to bring the play to life. First, cast the five parts — Mrs Annie Pearson, Mrs Fitzgerald, George, Doris and Cyril — and let one student read the stage directions as narrator. For the reading, follow Priestley's own hint that the two women must have "sharply contrasting voices": give Mrs Pearson a light, flurried, apologetic tone and Mrs Fitzgerald a deep, bold, rather Irish one.
