The idea. Every character is mapped to a numeric ASCII code and each code is held in binary. Note that the letter A appears twice and gets the SAME code both times — encoding is deterministic.
Encoding table:
| Letter | ASCII (decimal) | 7-bit binary |
|---|---|---|
| D | 68 | 1000100 |
| A | 65 | 1000001 |
| T | 84 | 1010100 |
| A | 65 | 1000001 |
Sample conversion, 68 -> binary, by repeated division:
68/2 = 34 r 0
34/2 = 17 r 0
17/2 = 8 r 1
8/2 = 4 r 0
4/2 = 2 r 0 …
