Q.‘Play and learn’ strategy helps toddlers understand concepts in a fun way. Being a senior student you have taken responsibility to develop a program using user defined functions to help children master two and three-letter words using English alphabets and addition of single digit numbers. Make sure that you perform a careful analysis of the type of questions that can be included as per the age and curriculum.

The idea. The exercise tests program design with functions: decompose the game into independent, reusable functions — one per skill being taught — and a main loop that mixes them. The random module keeps every play-through fresh, which is what makes "play and learn" replayable.
Step 1 — analysis of the question types (age + curriculum appropriate)
- English alphabets → words: unscramble or spell two- and three-letter words (
at,up,cat,sun) — matches early phonics. - Numbers: addition of single-digit numbers only (0–9), as the question specifies.
- Feedback style: toddlers need praise and the correct answer shown gently — never a bare "wrong".
Step 2 — the program
import random
def word_quiz():
# Unscramble a 2/3-letter word. Returns 1 for a correct answer.
words = ["cat", "sun", "pen", "dog", "at", "up", "in", "bat"]
word = random.choice(words)
jumbled = "".join(random.sample(word, len(word)))
ans = input("Arrange the letters " + jumbled + " to make a word: ")
if ans.lower() == word:
print("Correct! Well done.")
return 1
print("Good try! The word was", word)
return 0
def add_quiz():
# Single-digit addition. Returns 1 for a correct answer.
a = random.randint(0, 9)
b = random.randint(0, 9)
ans = int(input("What is " + str(a) + " + " + str(b) + "? "))
if ans == a + b:
print("Correct! Well done.")
return 1
print("Good try! The answer is", a + b)
return 0
print("Welcome to Play and Learn!")
score = 0
for round_no in range(3): # 3 rounds of each game
score += word_quiz()
score += add_quiz()
print("Your score:", score, "out of 6. Great playing!")
Sample run (illustrative — the words and sums are random, so every run differs)
Welcome to Play and Learn!
Arrange the letters tca to make a word: cat
Correct! Well done.
What is 4 + 3? 7
Correct! Well done.
Arrange the letters nus to make a word: sun
Correct! Well done.
What is 6 + 8? 13
Good try! The answer is 14 …
