Radio
Radio broadcasting in India began in 1923, started by the Radio Club of Bombay. This was a private, experimental effort, but it caught on quickly. Within a short time, radio became immensely popular and began to change the socio-cultural life of people across the country. It soon found a place in nearly every household.
Seeing this reach and influence, the government brought radio under its control in 1930, naming it the Indian Broadcasting System. In 1936, it was renamed All India Radio, and finally, in 1957, it was given the Hindi name Akashwani. …
