Political Science · Ch 7 — Globalisation

Overview

Globalisation is the central idea of this final chapter. The book has touched on it in many earlier chapters and in other subjects, so this is where we bring all those threads together into a clear, focused study.

The chapter begins by defining what globalisation actually means. Once the concept is clear, it moves to the causes — the forces and events that have driven globalisation forward. After that, the chapter examines the consequences of globalisation in three distinct spheres: political, economic, and cultural. Each of these is discussed at length.

A special focus is placed on India. The chapter studies two sides of this relationship: how globalisation has impacted India, and also how India itself is shaping globalisation. This two-way interaction is important for understanding the country's place in the world today.

Finally, the chapter turns to resistance. Globalisation is not accepted everywhere without question. The book draws attention to the various forms of resistance that have emerged, and it specifically notes that social movements in India are part of this larger global resistance. This closing section reminds us that globalisation is not a one-way process — it is contested, debated, and reshaped by people on the ground.
