The Tiger King warns against domination over nature; the age of ecology instead demands a system that cares for people, the Earth and all its life together.

The Tiger King illustrates the danger of a world in which the powerful treat nature as something to be conquered and consumed. The Maharaja wipes out the tigers of his state to feed his pride, showing no thought for the animals, the forests, or the balance of life; and this reckless domination finally destroys him too. This is exactly the mindset an 'age of ecology' must replace.

A new ecological system would begin from the understanding that human beings are a part of nature, not its owners. It would protect forests, rivers and wildlife instead of exploiting them, and use the Earth's resources sustainably so that future generations and other species can also thrive. Crucially, such a system must care for all people as well: environmental protection and human welfare cannot be separated, since the poor often suffer most when nature is damaged. It would encourage conservation, cruelty-free treatment of animals, clean energy and responsible consumption, and a sense of shared responsibility for the planet. …
