Part (a): a Series is a 1-D single labelled column; a DataFrame is a 2-D table of many columns (each column is a Series).

Part (b): slice a Series with s[start:stop] — integer slicing excludes the stop, label-based slicing includes both endpoints.

The two structures differ chiefly in dimensionality and in what they represent:

  1. Dimensionality (number of axes). A Series is one-dimensional: it has a single axis of data (the index) and one sequence of values, like one column of a spreadsheet. A DataFrame is two-dimensional: it has two axes — an index (rows) and columns — like a whole spreadsheet or SQL table.
  2. Columns and data types. A Series stores exactly one column of values, all conceptually one variable. A DataFrame stores many columns, and each column can be a different data type (int, float, string, ...).
