Each old partner sacrifices a fraction of his own share; converting to a common denominator of 60 gives Ram : Shyam : Ghanshyam = 27 : 16 : 17.

Concept

In this NCERT Class 12 Accountancy new-ratio problem, each old partner surrenders a fraction of his own share (Ram 1/4 of his share, Shyam 1/3 of his share). So the sacrifice is calculated on the old share, deducted from it to get the new share, and the incoming partner's share equals the sum of both sacrifices.

Working Notes

  • Ram's old share = 3/5; sacrifice = 1/4 of 3/5 = 3/20.
  • Shyam's old share = 2/5; sacrifice = 1/3 of 2/5 = 2/15.
  • Ghanshyam's share = Ram's sacrifice + Shyam's sacrifice = 3/20 + 2/15 = 9/60 + 8/60 = 17/60.
