TP = AP × L and MP = change in TP; the completed schedules are TP = 2, 6, 12, 17, 20, 21 and MP = 2, 4, 6, 5, 3, 1.

Step 1 — Total Product (TP = Average Product × number of units of labour):

L=1: TP = 2 × 1 = 2

L=2: TP = 3 × 2 = 6

L=3: TP = 4 × 3 = 12

L=4: TP = 4.25 × 4 = 17

L=5: TP = 4 × 5 = 20

L=6: TP = 3.5 × 6 = 21

Step 2 — Marginal Product (MP = TPₙ − TPₙ₋₁; TP is 0 at L=0):

L=1: MP = 2 − 0 = 2

L=2: MP = 6 − 2 = 4

L=3: MP = 12 − 6 = 6

L=4: MP = 17 − 12 = 5

L=5: MP = 20 − 17 = 3

L=6: MP = 21 − 20 = 1

Completed schedule:

Labour | AP | TP | MP

1 | 2 | 2 | 2

2 | 3 | 6 | 4

3 | 4 | 12 | 6

4 | 4.25 | 17 | 5

5 | 4 | 20 | 3

6 | 3.5 | 21 | 1
