Transgenic animals carry a foreign gene deliberately introduced into their genome and are produced mainly for research, disease modelling, and producing useful biological products.

Transgenic animals are animals whose genome has been altered by the deliberate introduction, alteration, or removal of certain gene(s) using genetic engineering techniques — i.e., they carry and express a gene from another species. Examples include transgenic mice, rabbits, pigs, cows, sheep.

Reasons for producing transgenic animals (any three):
